The Army Fought a War Against Emus - And Lost

In Western Australia in 1932, farmers were already struggling with falling wheat prices when another disaster hit: about 20,000 emus moved into their fields. The birds ate and ruined crops, and tore holes in fences so rabbits could get in.

Farmers asked for military help, and the government agreed. Soon, troops from the Royal Australian Artillery arrived with Lewis guns and 10,000 rounds, in what the media later called the Emu War.
