The Crimson Curse
Released in 2017, The Crimson Court introduced the Courtyard, a new playable class, an enemy faction, five boss encounters, new trinkets, and Hamlet upgrade buildings. Its most dramatic addition was the Crimson Curse, a status effect that could transform a hero into a vampire.
The expansion turned corruption into something that could follow the party back from the dungeon, binding character development to a supernatural infection.
Madness from the Sky
The Color of Madness brought a meteor crash near the village. Its effects transformed villagers into zombie-like creatures and opened new dungeons filled with monsters and gameplay challenges. It also added a horde mode, asking parties to survive as many encounters as possible against the new threat.
Instead of a single expedition with a clear endpoint, this mode emphasizes endurance: how long can a carefully assembled team remain functional?
The free Butcher’s Circus expansion shifted the game from cooperation against computer-controlled horrors to competition between players. Each participant assembles four adventurers and sends them into arena-style combat against another team.
The same positional tactics and class interactions that govern dungeon battles now become tools against a human opponent. Planning must account not only for enemy abilities but for another player’s intentions.
Additional downloadable classes included the Musketeer and Shieldbreaker, while ports brought the game to major consoles, iOS, and other platforms. The expansion history shows how the game’s central ideas—formation, pressure, and adaptation—could support radically different settings and modes without abandoning its core identity.
