Henry VIII Broke With Rome for a Son

Henry VIII wanted his marriage to Catherine of Aragon annulled after she failed to produce a surviving son. When the Pope would not grant it, Henry broke from the Roman Church.

A New Church, Same Crown

The English Reformation put the king, not the Pope, at the head of the Church in England. Many who resisted the king's religious policy were executed.
