男子の後継者を望んでローマと決別したヘンリー8世

ヘンリー8世は、妻カタリナ・オブ・アラゴンとの間に生き残る男子の子どもが生まれなかったため、この結婚を無効にしたいと望んだ。ローマ教皇が婚姻無効（宗教的な理由で結婚そのものをなかったことにする手続き）の許可を出さなかったため、ヘンリーはローマ教会から離反した。
