Appearance of Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 after the explosion

The Japan quake turned into a nuclear disaster

After the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, seawater slammed into Fukushima Daiichi and knocked out the backup power needed for cooling. Without electricity, heat built up inside the reactors, and three reactors melted down.
